The apartment
A quiet retreat, four minutes from the noise
Rubens Lodge is the more characterful of our two apartments — and the surprise of the two. Behind an unremarkable door on Vicolo del Governo Vecchio, ten metres from the Palazzo del Governo Vecchio, is a double-height living room with the original beamed ceiling of the 1650 building, a stone fireplace, and a staircase in steel and wood rising to a mezzanine.
There are two separate bedrooms: one on the mezzanine, tucked under the sloping beams, the other on the main level with a window onto the lane. The bathroom is finished in marble, with a walk-in shower and a heated towel rail. The kitchen is a real one — fridge, oven, microwave, coffee machine and kettle — so you can shop at the market on Campo de' Fiori and cook what you find. Air conditioning runs throughout, heating in winter, and the Wi-Fi scores 9.0 from guests who actually worked from here.
What guests mention most, after the location, is the quiet. The lane empties out in the evening, and more than one review describes coming back from a day on foot to a cool, still apartment as the best part of the day.

Before you book
Arrival and departure
Check-in from 15:00, check-out by 10:30. Self check-in: after your online check-in you receive the instructions to open the door with the Vikey app and collect the key from the key box — please put it back when you leave. Luggage can usually be left before check-in.
Beds and children
Two double bedrooms, sleeping four. Children of all ages are welcome; from the age of four they count as adults for pricing. A cot for under-2s is free on request, subject to availability. No extra beds are available.
Two levels — is it suitable for everyone?
The apartment is on the second floor of a building with no lift, and inside it is arranged over two levels connected by a staircase, so it is not the right choice for anyone who has difficulty with stairs. Bernini Lodge has no lift either (third floor), but inside it is all on one level.
Smoking, pets, parking
The apartment is non-smoking and pets are not allowed. There is no parking: the area is a restricted traffic zone, and nothing here needs a car.
